A historical novel told in poetic fragments, Illyrian Fugue traces the journey of the King of Illyria from his humble beginnings as an Austrian Lieutenant through meetings with historical figures (like Ziga Zois, Joseph Fouché, and the mad remnants of Governor General Jean Andoche Junot) as a French Captain and Engineer, ultimately to become the King of Illyria in its final moments.
